The latest pay offer from the Department of Education in Northern Ireland has received a furious response from teacher union members working in schools.
Against expectations of the bosses the offer was firstly rejected by the members of two teachers unions, NEU and NASUWT. Then two other unions, UTU and NAHT, quickly followed. Now, all the teachers unions have joined the rebellion.
The derisory and divisive pay offer did nothing to address inflation pressures and falling living standards. In fact it has compounded the anger that already exists amongst teachers who are well aware that they were treated as expendable by the Northern Ireland assembly during the Covid crisis.
There is a real prospect of a significant campaign, including strike action, across the education sector in Northern Ireland.
Thanks for sharing. I read many of your blog posts, cool, your blog is very good.
